Funtavia is all grown up with our most exciting festival program just released for 2019.
Now in our fourth year, our three-day festival will treat Geraldton to some of Fringe World’s best acts in comedy, cabaret, magic and music on the 7th, 8th and 9th of February 2019.
The festival program boast the likes of Famous Sharron, Garry Starr, Pierre Ulric and Children of the Tide as well as a heap of local shows totally unique to Funtavia.
Funtavia Creative Director, Julian Canny said, “We’re thrilled to finally announce the array of shows lined up for Funtavia 2019, and the exciting addition of two new festival programs – Funtavia Jnr, a pilot kids program and a new music program that is sure to rock your world.”
Famous Sharron’s ‘Love Match’ will be amongst the most popular shows to see at Funtavia 2019. ‘Love Match’ is a comedy show about finding that special someone and stars celebrity guests from Married at First Sight, The Bachelor and the Real Housewives of Sydney.
“Famous Sharron had smash-hit seasons at Fringe World, Perth Comedy Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival last year and we’re sure she will be just as popular with the Geraldton crowd’, said Canny.
Another show not to miss is the comedic genius ‘Garry Starr Performs Everything’, directed by award-winning comedy director Cal McCrystal from The Mighty Boosh, Paddington 1 and 2, and One Man: Two Guvnors. This unique comedy show is all about the theatre and interestingly is performed in every genre of theatre possible.
International magician Pierre Ulric will be bringing two shows to Funtavia next year. ‘Neo Magic’ which is a magic show for adults and investigates time, space and the limits of perception. Ulric will perform a second show for the kids at Funtavia Jnr called ‘Wacky Magic and Mad Science’ which is about a mad scientist trapped on Earth.
There is also an incredible eight local shows featured in the 2019 program.
Canny said, “We are extremely proud that we’re able to continue delivering something that is completely unique to the region and invests directly in our local performers.”
On the music side of things, we are spoilt for choice here with emerging folk-roots band, Children of The Tide headlining as well as music from many of our local favourites including Moose Abuse, Rex Manning Day and recent Battle of The Bands 2019 winners Rollercoast.
Funtavia Music Director Alexia Parenzee said, “This year’s Funtavia music program has a heavy local produce flavour.”
“Geraldton and the wider Mid West region have seen a huge increase of established and emerging musicians, and I have really loved developing a music program for Funtavia that showcases them,” she said.
